EARTH MAMMAS: SHIVA

Shiva is a holistic advocate, activist, beauty guru and earth mamma that lives a picturesque life in Santa Monica with her two daughters. Here, she keeps bees, lives off the land, has an amazing circle of friends, a network of healers, and shares about it all on her website, The Local Rose.

After being diagnosed with different life threatening auto immune diseases in her 20’s, she began to embrace holistic living and started a path of discovery to her own personal healing.

Years of research, growing ingredients in her garden, and playing alchemist made Shiva’s namesake beauty line the perfect go-to, with all natural and unique findings, like kukui nut oil from hawaii, amber tree resin, and of course, rose oil.

Read on for more about the magic behind the woman, and how she stays happy, connected, and inspired.

Name: Shiva Rose

Age: I am in my forties (the internet though has me a bit older).

Your sign: Aquarius with a Scorpio moon.

Where are you from? I am from mama earth and father sky.

Where are you going? I hope to be going to a healed planet and clean sea.

Can you tell us about your work?

I am an alchemist for a non toxic skin care brand that is my namesake Shiva Rose. I also have a blog on holistic living called The Local Rose.

How did you first discover your passion for holistic beauty?

I have always gravitated towards the natural beautiful elements straight from the source. When I was diagnosed with health issues, I began to devote my life to the more holistic and naturals way of being. This in turn led me to the non-toxic skin care realm.

Best beauty trick?

Castor oil on lashes and eyebrows to help them grow. Spoonful of ghee everyday.

What types of healing interests you?

I am fascinated by all the healing modalities. Today I am studying the benefits of certain herbs and plants like Olive Tree Leaf and Black Cumin Seed Oil.

Do you have any other passions that you pursue or would like to?

I am passionate about hiking up trails near my home, tea ceremony and Kundalini yoga.

What makes you feel the happiest?

Seeing my daughters laugh and seeing clean air, pure water, organic food that is vibrant and alive.

What do you do to stay feeling grounded and connected?

Being in my garden. Mantras being played. Connecting to the earth and The Source energy.

What are your superpowers?

My superpowers are being open-minded and trying to live in love.

What’s on your music playlist?

Mantras all the time. Also some Led Zeppelin, Bon Iver, Mozart. I love having  soundtrack to my life ~

What makes you feel the healthiest in your body?

Laughter

What do you do to treat yourself?

I take baths and use my products in rituals. I also eat lots of dark cacao and chocolate- always treating myself to that~

What is your best advice for loving yourself?

We should always love ourselves as we would our child. Patience and tenderness since the world can be such a harsh place.

Who inspires you and why?

Vandana Shiva inspires me because she is relentlessly fighting for our earth against the greedy, murdering corporations.

Has learning to accept yourself been a journey for you or has it come naturally?

I have been blessed with accepting myself on a conscious level. I have worked on myself to accept and love myself on an unconscious level, since as a sensitive child I may have absorbed things I shouldn’t have. Through my Kundalini practice I have awakened to my power as a woman. Through my connection to the natural world I have awakened to my power as a custodian of mama earth.

What are you most grateful for learning?

I am most grateful for learning to trust and have faith. I am grateful for knowing we are powerful when we know we are.

What would you tell your younger self?

I would tell my younger self to eat more protein and be more grounded. I also would say to that to surround myself with creatures that are more supportive and nourishing. I also would say . . . it will all work out  . . .
